Weekend action - musselcracker

Attended the launch of a new spearfishing club in Port Elizabeth - Gully Jumpers - strange name - but pretty decent bunch of spearfisherman attended.  I understand that 25 is the total membership to date.  Well done to Nick and Richard for organising.

Went for an early morning dive and bagged a musselcracker (silver steenbras/brusher) of 7.18 kilograms.  Water was cool, and rapidly became chopped up with huge amounts of sand being stirred.  Well it was good to get into the water.

Just a quick heads up on the speargun I used (as my Rob Allen 1200 was in for repairs) - Rabitech Apex 1100 railgun with the oval barrel.  I really like the Rob Allen equipment, but the Rabitech is really a fine speargun - powerful, accurate.  Well done to Louis - good work mate!

The musselcracker were in a shoal of about 20 fish, and then 3 or 4 larger cracker followed.  I waited as the fish streamed by, and picked one of the last 4.  Aimed for the head and got the head.

Oh dear, Musselcracker didn't manage to outwit you Zane. Probably didn't notice the Speargun was the item to avoid.
Oh well, better luck to the Fish next time.

Glad you experienced a good Adventure being in the Ocean again. The mood of the Ocean reads to change often and rapidly. Would certainly keep you alert am sure.

Good wishes to you always. From Magda(Australia)
